Event Overview
The Designing Olympiad is a competitive event crafted for Grade 9-12 students and gap-year learners passionate about graphic and UI/UX design. This competition will test participants’ skills in design replication, creativity, and practical implementation using tools like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Figma, or similar software.
Eligibility Criteria
- Open to students in Grades 9-12 or gap-year students (not enrolled in undergraduate programs).
- Participants should have a basic understanding of design principles and proficiency in at least one design tool (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, Figma, etc.).
Events Format and Timeline

Round Structure
Round 1: Design Replication (50%)
- Duration: 2 hours (11:00 AM – 1:00 PM)
- Participants will be provided with a reference design (e.g., a poster, UI layout, or illustration).
- Task: Replicate the design as accurately as possible using any design tool.
- Evaluation: Precision, attention to detail, and fidelity to the reference design.
Round 2: Creative Design Task (50%)
- Duration: 2 hours (2:00 PM – 4:00 PM)
- Participants will receive a design brief or content (e.g., a theme, brand identity, or concept).
- Task: Create an original design showcasing creativity and technical skill.
- Evaluation: Creativity, aesthetic appeal, functionality, and adherence to the brief.
Rules and Regulations
- Only students from Grades 9-12 or gap-year students (not enrolled in undergraduate programs) are eligible.
- Cheating or plagiarism will result in immediate disqualification.
- Entry fees are non-refundable.
- Participants must bring their laptops and design software/tools.
- Collaboration is not allowed; all submissions must reflect individual effort.
Syllabus and Resources
- Design Fundamentals: Color theory, typography, layout composition.
- Tools: Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Figma, or equivalent design software.
- UI/UX Basics: Understanding of user-friendly design (optional but encouraged).
